I believe that my job as a principal is a calling. I have a passion to help kids be the best they can be and I am committed to my learning so that together we create systems at Stevens that work, knowing that we are here for kids!
I believe that skills and knowledge are not separated. Content is available but thinking skills reside in the learner’s brain. To think critically students need the knowledge that is central to the domain. I believe we have to build on knowledge and give exposure to varied examples before students understanding of concept becomes more abstract. Without content knowledge we cannot use thinking skills properly and effectively. Also, students have to have pre-existing understanding in order to then build the initial understanding.
I believe it all starts with building a sense of community for students
I believe this work is noble---Edward Kennedy said it well, “the fundamental test of our society is how we treat the least powerful among us.”
People at Stevens want to be about something big---changing society, sending out strong kids of character with strong academic and thinking skills, with an excitement and a belief in their learning. Teachers and staff know they are doing great things in the world.
